As we identify and recognise the excellence and contribution of distinguished journalists, we should pause and remind ourselves that the profession, and indeed Indian democracy, has been immensely enriched by the great publisher who built The Indian Express as an institutional example of good journalism, with intense passion and vision.
The forthcoming Elections in Punjab, U.P. Uttarakhand, coming soon after the farcical debate on corruption in the context of Parliaments fiasco on Lokpal Bill, some expected greater pressure on political parties to avoid selecting candidates against whom there was a suspicion of criminal background and lack of integrity and honesty in public life.
