Record caste in Census 2011: Popular Front
Calicut: Popular Front of India demanded the Central Government to make arrangements to include the caste of the citizens during the Census 2011 operations. The non-availability of caste data very often leads to contradicting claims of their strength by different castes. The Supreme Court while hearing the case on reservation in higher education has also pointed out the non-availability of caste-wise population data as a factor which adversely affects decisions on quota allotment. The Central Secretariat meeting of Popular Front supported the initiative taken by the Law Minister Veerappa Moily in this regard and requested the Prime Minister to act favourably.
The meeting shared the concern expressed by the Prime Minister in the top police officers meeting convened by Intelligence Bureau about the alarming increase in the number of organised attacks in different states. He has rightly pointed out that Maoist attacks cannot be treated as merely a law and order problem. The meeting urged the Central and State governments to attend the basic needs of the rural poor and put an end to human rights violations by the police as means of saving the people from the control of extremists. Meawhile it is unfortunate that both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister who addressed the police officers meeting failed to mention the threat posed by the Hindutva fascist outfits spread throughout the country to public life and law and order. The meeting urged the Central Government to revamp the Central Intelligence Bureau by cleansing it from communal and fascist influence. Popular Front also demanded special recruitment to ensure adequate representation of Muslims in various intelligence agencies which is near zero now.
Popular Front units in all states will undertake a public health campaign “Healthy People, Healthy Nation” during 1-15 November. Chairman E. M. Abdul Rahiman presided. General Secretary K. M. Shareef, A. Saeed, O.M. A. Salam and E. Abubacker attended the meeting.
