Popular Front demands immediate action on the culprits of Goripalya unrest
On 27/Aug/2010 around 5:00PM some of the volunteers of Popular Front of India were doing Ramazan Charity collection from public. This collection is the routine activity of Popular Front of India done every year. While all was peaceful Arif Pasha a local goon who has a long history of murders, extortions and kidnapping along with his men waylaid our volunteers and started abusing them and attacked them with weapons.
Six of our volunteers were injured with minor bruises and cuts. Later in the evening around 9:00pm our legal counsel Mr. Mohammed Tahir visited the JJR Nagar PS and requested the officials to file the cases. Seven written complaints were submitted then. While leaving the Police Station Mohammed Tahir and 4 others with him was attacked by Arif Pasha’s weapons yielding goons. They were critically injured with a skull fracture, multiple stabs in the stomach, back, left and right flanks, thighs and arms. Mohammed Tahir and Irfan are under critical care at Manipal and Fortis Hospital. Others injured were treated in Victoria Hospital.
Arif Pasha and his gang are involved in many criminal activities for the past 20 yrs. There are many incidents which
happened in the past where Arif Pasha and his men were involved in murder, kidnapping, rioting and extortion. The local administration is also under constant threat by his gang. We urge immediate police intervention and arrest of the culprits and book them under stringent acts to contain them.
We at Popular Front are also deeply concerned about the developments and the delay in action against the culprits. Even the public in the area are living an uncertain life after Arif Pasha’s men attacked local vehicles and destroyed shops in the area. The public has lost faith in the local PS and their ability to work above the influence of Arif Pasha and hence we even urge the Police authorities to deploy more forces to the area to boost the confidence of the public. We also appeal to the local public of Goripalya to be calm and maintain peace in the locality.
Sincerely, Afsar Pasha,
General Secretary,
Popular Front of India, Karnataka State.
