Legislative Council passes bill banning cow slaughter
Bangalore, Jul 15: Amidst the Opposition's vociferous protest over the illegal mining issue, Karnataka Legislative Council on Thursday, July 15, passed three bills including the Karnataka Prevention of Cow Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Bill 2010 by voice vote.
Chairman D H Shankara Murthy resumed proceedings in the Upper House despite the protests.
Murthy directed Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Bilamagi to move the bill for consideration and later put it to voice vote despite the sloganeering by Congress and JDS members.
The Bill, which has already been passed by the Lower House during the previous session, got the approval of the Upper House also on Thursday.
The House also passed Karnataka Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2010 and the Alliance University Bill, 2010.
Opposition legislators tore the copies of the Bill after the government pushed through the passage of bills when the House was not in order.
