Lecturer case: 'Kerala not for NIA probe' - G.K Pillai

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Union Home Secretary G K Pillai clarified in the afternoon that the Kerala government did not did not ask for an NIA probe into the case of chopping off hand of a college lecturer allegedly by Popular Front activists and that a statement made by him earlier in the day was result of a mistake."What I said earlier was the result of misunderstanding of an intimation report sent by the state which said that the case of the college lecturer also involved some charges coming under the NIA Act. This was meant as an information and not as request for NIA to take up the case,'' Pillai told reporters here after reviewing the security situation with top police officials here.Pillai said he was making "this correction" after checking up the details with Centre.He said during his discussions with state DGP and other senior officials, he was told that the state police was continuing with the investigation and had progressed well.Earlier in the day, Pillai told reporters in Kollam that Kerala government had sought probe in the case.Meanwhile, in an affidavit filed in Kerala High Court on PIL the state government made it clear that there was no need to refer the case to NIA since the state police probe had been progressing well.
