BJP’s Green Valley March Attempt Foiled

Thursday, August 26th, 2010
Malappuram: An attempt by the workers of BJP to conduct a march to the Green Valley campus was foiled today by the police here. The police had banned the proposed march yesterday. Though the activists assembled near Manjeri general hospital, the police blocked them at the spot of inauguration itself. After the speeches by the leaders, the march was declared dispersed.
Malappuram district SP K Sethuraman had banned the march on the basis of the report from the Crime Branch DySP that the march may lead to communal tensions as there are nearly 12 mosques on the way. At the same time, BJP leaders had said that the party would go on with the march despite the police order.
The BJP state president announced the march in a press conference held at Malappuram on August 21, accusing the Green Valley as the training center of Popular Front.
The Green Valley campus consists of a masjid, a centre of the School of Islamic Studies (for learning and research of Qur’an and Hadith), etc. The campus has also a technical and vocational training centre.
