ABVP protest against Somayaji’s participation in Save India Day

Mangalore, August 10: The Mangalore University College, Hampankatta, is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons with some members of the ABVP staged protest against Pattabhirami Somayaji for participating Save India Day Campaign held by popular Front of India in Mangalore, on 9 August 2010.

The protesters also decided to boycott classes. They attacked physically on the Muslim students, Noushad, Shakeel and Siddiq who denied to support their protest and backed Somayaji in the issue, on Tuesday morning.

The protestors also demanded a written confirmation from Somayaji that he would not participate in any programmes or events organised by any organisation. But he denied it by saying that he has all rights as per constitution to express his views.

ABVP, a student wing of RSS, has history of participation in several communal riots in Mangalore and physical assaults on Muslim students.

Campus Front condemns attack on students

Popular Front of India, Dakshin Kannada district unit, has condemned the attack on Muslim students by ABVP in Mangalore University on Tuesday.

Nawaz Ahmad, district secretary of Campus Front has said, in a press release that, often such attacks on Muslim students have been taking place in Mangalore university for past several years.

Students who were attacked today had complained the issue to college principal, but he had not responded to it. Such type of behaviour by principal is main cause for repetition of attacks.

He also demanded that college administration should take strict action culprits to return normalcy in the campus.
